My lawyer friend loved Praying for Sheetrock by Melissa Fay Green, a non-fiction book about corruption and racism in McIntosh County in South Georgia. I was like, is it going to be super depressing and lawyer-y. She goes: “Kinda!” Despite my non-legal background, I was really moved by this story, which shows the complexities of the aftermath of Civil Rights, and ultimately a positive outcome, though not without heartbreak and zigzags. Plus, McIntosh County is just down the road from us.
