Whereabouts by Jumpha Lahiri

Read This and That

Jumpha Lahiri graduated from my MA program at BU! (A couple years before me. Clearly they must have lowered the acceptance standards when they let me in.) So I follow her career both based on our BU connection but mostly because she’s brilliant. There is an unwinding and unfurling in the moments she creates that’s so beautiful. Whereabouts, is different from her fiction, it’s a collection of vignettes set in Italy that apparently she wrote in Italian first, and then translated to English. It almost felt like reading poetry because you read it in small morsels. Beautiful.
